We recently had the privilege of attending the International Conference on Forensic Nursing (IAFN) Science and Practice in Denver, Colorado. Being actively involved over three days of the conference, we engaged with nurses by facilitating focus groups and showcasing our offerings at a booth. Professor Katherine Scafide, a primary investigator of this project, presented her work for the audience, ranging from clinicians and academics to industry professionals. She recently is honored by the Association with the Ann Burgess Forensic Nursing Research Award for advancing bruise identification on all skin colors.
We hosted three dynamic focus groups that invited participants to share their insights on the area of injury research. The discussions were lively and informative, offering us valuable perspectives on the challenges and opportunities within the industry. Kevin Mallinson, PhD, MSN, a recently retired professor at School of Nursing, George Mason University, and a professional in qualitative research, accompanied the team in the conference to get the best out of these focus groups. Through positive feedback from our participants, we are making efforts to improve our product development and continue in our research.
Our booth, located at Sheraton Hotel, was a hub of activity throughout the conference. We had the opportunity to engage with numerous attendees. A range of experienced forensic nurses who visited the booth enrolled in a couple of surveys, the information from which will be published in scientific journals.
We look forward to attending such renowned events and having the opportunity to engage in such meaningful conversations and partnering with hardworking forensic nurses in the near future.
