We recently had the privilege of attending the International Conference on Forensic Nursing (IAFN) Science and Practice in Denver, Colorado. Being actively involved over three days of the conference, we engaged with nurses by facilitating focus groups and showcasing our offerings at a booth. Professor Katherine Scafide, a primary investigator of this project, presented her work for the audience, ranging from clinicians and academics to industry professionals. Graduate Research Assistants Emily Swann and Vibhavari Gadhe, under the guidance of Professor Scafide, delivered an enlightening lecture on bruise detection research to high school students in the "Introduction to Health Sciences" class as part of the Early Identification Program (EIP) at George Mason University. During the session, students learned about the definition of a bruise and the critical importance of detecting it. Emily and Vibhavari also introduced the concept of ALS (Alternate Light Source) and explained how it plays a vital role in identifying bruises that might not be visible to the naked eye.
